A Sweet Escape
The Hotel Nantucket is the beach read I needed
I love a good beach read, and Elin Hilderbrand always delivers. In The Hotel Nantucket Elin takes us back to Nantucket, somewhere I’ve never been but like to dream about going. Part of what I like to refer to as “Elin’s Extended Universe,” The Hotel Nantucket was another love letter to the island.
The Hotel Nantucket, once a famous hotel, has been abandoned for years with rumors that its haunted, when a London based billionaire buys the building and puts millions into renovations. His goal, to get the highly sought after, and never been done before ,“5 Key” rating from a mysterious and influential travel blogger. He hires Lizbet, fresh off a public breakup from her long term partner, to the be the general manager, and sets her out with this impossible goal. While the 5 Key rating may be the goal, Lizbet is also eager to prove herself after not only leaving the man who was not only her romantic partner, but also her business partner at a popular local restaurant.
Lizbet hires a fun cast of characters to work at the hotel, each with their own secret backstory that we get into in the book. You really got the feeling like they were all a family, and this was more than a job. The staff and the luxe amenities made me want to check into the hotel right now! Elin also throws in an interesting story telling tool by actually having a ghost with her own thoughts on feelings take us throw the hotel with her. We get to “spy” on the staff and guests and learn more about them. There is a bit of mystery around the ghost, which adds a fun bit of thriller to this book.
If you’re looking for a fun, escapist, and heartwarming beach read, then The Hotel Nantucket is for you.
