My Current TBR

Everything I’m excited to read next

As I wait for all of the books I have on my BPL holds list on Libby to be ready to checked out, I decided to delve into the books I already have in my possession. For anyone that’s a constant Libby user, you know that it’s a long wait for your holds to be ready, or every single book on hold becomes somehow ready all at the same time, there is no in between.

Starting with my kindle, the devil works hard, but Amazon works harder. I got a targeted email from Amazon of some kindle deals it thought I might like, it was right. I picked up Pachinko by Min Jin Lee and Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé.

For physical books, after finishing my last book, which was a disappointment to me (read more about it here), I decided to impulse purchase Seven Days in June by Tia Williams, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Kevin and Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

Finally, early in 2020 I went to a talk by one of my favorite authors Erik Larson about his then new book, The Splendid and The Vile. I had it stacked on my nightstand read to go, and then a few weeks later it was March 2020 and I really just needed to read happy and distracting books to help cope with what was going on. I didn’t think I had it in me to go into the mind of Winston Churchill in London during the Blitz. Especially because I distinctly remembered that in his talk, Erik Larson mentioned that he was inspired to write this book after walking around lower Manhattan after 9/11, and taking the devastation in, he wondering how Churchill felt during WW2. Dark, right? I needed to shelve it for another time. More than two years later, and a ton of fun books read, I am ready to jump into it.
