When I really fell off on posting
Wow I was on such a roll and then life happens and I just really fell off posting. Work was crazy, lots of travel, and just life and I didn’t share my reads, didn’t really post on Instagram, just didn’t do anything book related. My reading even fell off. That being said, I am back on my reading journey and back to posting here and on Instagram, which I love!
HOW TO FAKE IT IN HOLLYWOOD BY AVA WILDER
Such a fun romance! Grey Brooks is a starlet who’s trying to breakout from her hit teen TV show (think something that would be on The CW), and her team sets her up with A Lister Ethan Atkins who’s in need of an image rehab. The belief is his stardom and her innocent reputation would help both of their careers. This was a really cute romance I picked up mostly because of the cover at Books Are Magic. It was fun, had the fake dating/force proximity tropes and a nice amount of spice, but more that that it went into the dark side of fame and how people cope differently with grief.
THE IT GIRL BY RUTH WARE
As mentioned in my August Roundup I LOVE Ruth Ware. The It Girl was especially fun for me as it takes place at Oxford University and at Edinburgh, and as I had just been to both those places over the summer. The main character, and our POV, Hannah is expecting her first child with her husband Will who she met at Oxford, and at the same time the man who was convicted of killing her college roommate has just died in jail, the whole time professing his innocence. Hannah and Will, and all of their college friends are ready to move on when a journalist keeps reaching out to Hannah as he doesn’t believe the right man went to jail. Hannah herself goes on a search to see what’s true, and in Ruth Ware fashion, I was guessing until the end!
MEANT TO BE MINE BY HANNAH ORENSTEIN
This was an interesting concept, but in the end the main character kind annoyed me. Edie’s grandmother has accurately predicted the date everyone in her family would meet the loves of their lives. Knowing that, Edie has gone through her life with a specific date in, almost not fully living in her relationships “knowing” that they aren’t end game. When she meets a cute guy on a flight on her day, she decides he’s the one, and pursues a relationship with him. Exploring fate and if we can change it, or if its even real, Edie has to examine her past and decide if she has actually found The One.
CANT LOOK AWAY BY CAROLA LOVERING
Just like Ruth Ware, Carola Lovering is another amazing female mystery writer. Her books are always filled with twists and turns, and while intense, a fun ride. Molly is married with a kid living in an idyllic Connecticut suburb, working as a yoga instructor, yet she feels lost and disconnected to her life. She keeps thinking back to her younger years in Williamsburg going out and especially a relationship with a hot musician, Jake. One day a new woman moves into town and Molly and her quickly strike up a friendship, however all is not as it seems, and this new friend has ulterior motives…
COUNTERFEIT BY KIRSTIN CHEN
I described this book as Scammy Fun in my review and I really don’t think there’s a better phrase for it. Check out my full review but think of like an Ocean’s 11/The Sting but with women at the center and luxury goods. Fun if you like mysteries and fashion!
THE LAST ANNIVERSARY BY LIANE MORIARTY
I got this book through paperbackswap and really liked that using that I could discover a new to me Liane Moriarty book, after enjoying so many of her other ones. That being said, this was not one of my favorites. A fun book, kind of a fish out of water story when Sophie unexpectedly inherits her ex boyfriends aunts house on Scribbly Gum Island. I had to look up to see if this was a real place, but sadly its not. This was an easy read but not one of my favorites by Liane Moriarty. Check out Apples Never Fall to see why so many of her books have been optioned.
